| Abstract: | Employment in the EU’s business economy (industry, construction and services) was affected in different ways by the recent financial and economic crisis: The established growth in services employment was reversed by the crisis but several service activities have already recorded a rebound. The upward trend in construction employment was also reversed and at the time of writing construction employment continues to fall. The existing downward trend for industry was reinforced during the crisis. This publication focuses on labour input indicators from short-term statistics (STS). Quarterly time series are provided back to the beginning of 2000 but focus mainly on more recent developments influenced by the crisis. |

| Abstract: | Das Abgabenaufkommen (einschließlich Sozialbeiträge) macht in der Europäischen Union etwas über 91% der gesamten Einnahmen des Staatssektors aus. Die Einnahmen aus Steuern und Sozialabgaben beliefen sich 2010 auf 36,9% des BIP in der Europäischen Union (EU-27) und auf 40,2% des BIP in der Eurozone (EZ-17). Die Produktions- und Importabgaben machten 33,3% und die Einkommens- und Vermögenssteuern machten 31,2% des gesamten Abgabenaufkommens aus. Der Anteil der Einkommens- und Vermögenssteuern verringerte sich 2007 an, ohne sich im Jahr 2010 zu erholen. Der Anteil der Sozialbeiträge nahm zwischen 2008 und 2009 deutlich zu, und verringerte sich leicht zwischen 2009 und 2010 auf nunmehr 35,1% des gesamten Abgabenaufkommens. |

| Abstract: | Der Anteil des Binnenmarktes am gesamten EU-27-Güterhandel im Jahr 2010 betrug 63,7%. Zwischen 2005 und 2010 fiel dieser Anteil um 2,4 Prozentpunkte. 2010 erreichte der EU-27-Binnenhandel von Dienstleistungen 56,1% des gesamten Exports sowie 58,4% des gesamten Imports an Dienstleistungen, was einem Rückgang von 2,0 beziehungsweise 1,6 Prozentpunkten des innereuropäischen Dienstleistungshandels zwischen 2005 und 2010 entsprach. In 2010 tätigten die EU-27-Mitgliedsländer mehr Auslandsdirektinvestitionen (ADI) in anderen Mitgliedsländern als außerhalb der EU-27, nämlich 56,1% aller EU-27-Auslandsdirektinvestitionen. Auslandsdirektinvestitionen erlitt einen erheblichen Rückschlag während der weltweiten Finanzmarktkrise 2009. Beide Anteile erholten sich aber 2010 wieder, insbesondere die aus dem Ausland eingehenden Direktinvestitionen. |

| Titel: | EU remittances back on the increase in 2010 |
| Abstract: | International migration receives growing attention, as it has large implications for growth and welfare in both countries of origin and destination. Eurostat regularly publishes data related to workers' remittances and compensation of employees. Workers' remittances are mainly related to migrants who tend to stay for a long time, whereas compensation of employees is linked to cross-border and seasonal workers. After a temporary decrease in 2009, compensation of employees is back on the increase in 2010 at 46.9 bn euro. Outflows of workers' remittances also rose to 31.2 bn, compared with 30.4 bn in 2009 (+3%). Despite the growing trend, total outflows of remittances and compensation of employees in the EU at 78.1 bn in 2010 remained 1% below their 2008 record level of 79.2 bn euro. |

| Abstract: | This publication focuses on ECOWAS, the Economic Community of West African States. EU-27 exports and imports to/from ECOWAS account for around 1.5% of total extra-EU-27 exports and imports. ECOWAS accounts for 18% of EU-27 exports to Africa and 16% of imports. Nigeria is by far the EU-27’s largest ECOWAS partner for imports, exports and service flows. In 2010 the EU-27 had a trade surplus with the ECOWAS countries in goods and, in 2009, in services. Imports and exports both rose strongly in 2010 recovering from the financial crisis. Mineral fuels (crude oil imports from Nigeria) made up two thirds of EU-27 imports from ECOWAS, whilst petroleum products accounted for nearly a third of EU-27 exports. |
